Pain after squamous cell removal from my foot. How long will it take for the pain to improve?

I am in my senior years and normally fit. However I have fair skin and have lived in sunny climes for 25 years. That was 15 years ago and still have holidays in the sun. I hate the cold. I haven’t laid around sunbathing, always preferring to be mainly active.

I’ve had actinic keratosis on my chest, and treated. Also BCC above my left eyebrow..this was removed 17 days ago and had healed beautifully. At the same time I had the squamous cells removed from  my right foot and covered with a skin graft from my thigh. The wound is big on the foot and extremely painful to walk on.. I couldn’t without pain killers. Does anybody know how long it takes to improve this pain? I really didn’t expect it to be so painful!

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Fenelly, although I'm sorry to hear about the pain you've been experiencing since having the squamous cells removed from your foot.

Hopefully some of our members who have had this done will be able to share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you're worried, don't hesitate to get in touch with your medical team and/or GP as they will be in the best position to advise and address any other questions or concerns you have about your recovery at this time.

You can also have a quick chat about this with one of our of cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

We're thinking of you Fenelly and wishing you all the best with your recovery. Fingers crossed the pain starts to become more manageable soon.

    Kind regards,
