Continuing treatment in the uk

Hello, I have been living for a couple of years in Australia.   I was recently married and was shortly going to start a family.  My husband and I booked tickets to get home last summer and I've been counting down the days to get back to my home in Islington.    I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 days ago.  They have been fabulous here, I had scans, biopsies with a week, an MRI this morning and a Pet scan tomorrow. It has gone from my breast into a lymph node so I'm at least stage 2 with an estrogen  cancer, it's not triple negative, and is negative for something else difficult.  The dr wants to start me on chemo as soon as they have harvested some eggs.  I'm desperate to come home.  I'm scared and isolated from my family.  Has anyone been in a position where they have had to come back to the uk when treatment is already started.? After chemo they want to do surgery and I'm presuming radiation.   I've heard scare stories that I won't get treated, and that there are massive waiting lists..  I'm trying to balance my mental health with my getting better.

my tickets are booked for early May, so I am going to have start the treatment here.   Any thoughts and advice greatly appreciated.  Thank you

  • Hello Shazza.  I wasn't living abroad, but I was living in the North of England when I was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago.  I began my treatment, and to cut a long story short, I returned home to Islington a couple of years ago where I resumed my treatment.  A strange coincidence that we are both from the same place eh?  Whilst it is true that there are very long waiting lists here in England, I have to say, from a personal standpoint, that I have had very good treatment.  I know that this is not the case for everyone.........but like I say, for me personally, I have been taken very good care of.  I know that this is a worrying time for you, but try to remain positive if you can.  I wish you the best of luck on this nightmare cancer journey, xx
