My wife has Bladder Cancer and have a question about Folic acid.

My wife was diagnosed with bladder cancer 2023. They took a lot of the cancer away with an operation then had 6 weeks of Radiopherapy. 9 months later it seemed to work did not grow any more.

She had a Nephrostomy to the left kidney ( a drain from the left kidney) which she still has  Later they may put a stent in and not have the bag any more.

The question I have is she recently had a blood test which showed she was low in Folic Acid. The doctor gave her tablets, in the information in the packet it says if you have Malignant Cancer do not take them.

It can make the cancer grow again. I have asked the doctors all I get is it should be ok.

Can anybody give me an answer to this please.

The Cancer she has is Bladder Cancer G3 T3 N0 M0 MIBC what ever that means

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community DAVE-FAR although I'm sorry to hear about your wife and the lack of information you've been given about the tablets she's been prescribed.

Unfortunately I can't answer your question about folic acid but our team of cancer nurses may be able to help, so if you'd like to ask them about this they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all that they can to help.

We also have some information about bladder cancer staging, but again this is something that our cancer nurses will be able to help you with and explain in more detail.

    Kind regards,
