Coping with chemotherapy

Hello I have non Hodgkin Lymphoma and I was diagnosed in August 2022 and have been on watch and wait. I have now been told I need to start treatment and will be starting chemotherapy on Tuesday 25.02.25. I am really worried and concerned about the side effects.

  • Hi Cattyl.  I was really worried about chemotherapy too.  Everybody is different but so far it hasn’t been as bad as I expected.  I haven’t felt any sickness - they give you lots of drugs to counteract this.  And I’ve cold capped - my hair is thinner but it hasn’t all fallen out - yet.  My chemo regime is about to change  so it may be that the side effects get significantly worse but I comfort myself by saying there will be drugs available to alleviate anything I experience…….Not to say it will be easy though but I try not to look too far into the future and also know the treatment won’t last for ever….Hope this helps.

  • Hi Hopecalm thank you for your reply it really helps. I am more concerned about the effects on the heart as I had a triple heart bypass in November 22. They told me I had NHL just over a week after telling me I needed the bypass. I always try to remain positive and I am aware that it doesn’t mean I’m going to experience the side effects but however it is daunting as you know. I’ve been told by the chemo nurse I saw last Thursday that they don’t cold cap. I wish you well and hope you don’t experience any nasty side effects when your chemo changes. Good luck . Very best wishes.
