Recurrent triple negative metaplastic Breast Cancer in chest wall

Hi, in 2022 I had a double mastectomy with diep flap. reconstruction. All seemed ok until August 2024 When i started having pain higher up on the left side of my chest. This quickly developed into a visible bulge. I had a biopsy and several scans and was diagnosed with a 6cm recurrent triple negative metaplastic (squamous and sicle Cell) Breast Cancer in my chest wall. A small amount. (5%) of it was Her 2 positive.

I've recently completed 6 rounds of Chemo, Nab Paclitaxel & Carboplatin. (I'm also on Phesgo for the Hers2)  I had a partial response and my tumour has slightly shrunk to 5cm The next thing was supposed to be surgery but this will be in another hospital and due to bad communications between the 2 hospitals, the surgeons were not ready for me so I 've had to have Radiotherapy to prevent the cancer from growing. I will complete the 25 sessions of  Radiotherapy on 4th march and will then have to wait 6 weeks before I can have surgery.

The operation sounds scary as I have to have 3 ribs and part of my sternum removed followed by plastic surgery to repair the wound.

Is anyone on here going through or has gone through anything similar?

  • Hi Lily,

I hope you are getting on as OK as can be - I'm sorry to hear that there were difficulties with the communication between the hospitals. I hope that treatment has been going OK.
