Bladder Cancer

Hi,   I have had some blood in my urine last week (saw it on toilet paper).  Was showing when I went for a wee every time duering the nicght and first thing in the morning.    I went to gp and he sent off a wee sample and did blood tests.   Results came back as nothing found in wee sample but several of the blood results were out of the normal range.   He has now referred me under the 2 week cancer pathway to a Urologist.    I am now petrified it is bladder cancer.   I had a mastectomy 3 years ago for breast cancer so now making 2 plus 2 make 20!    I have not seen any blood since.

  • Hello Jaynecat,

It can be frightening to see unexpected blood on the toilet paper and you did well to go to the GP to get this checked. I am sorry to hear that several of the blood results were out of the normal range and it won't be too long hopefully now until you can see a urologist.

It's normal to be scared of bladder cancer but bear in mind that there are so many other things it could be other than cancer and what is important really is that all this is being investigated properly and that it's a matter of days or weeks now until you get a proper diagnosis. It's impossible obviously for you to forget your breast cancer diagnosis but try not to think too much about it as it may all be totally unrelated. All you can do really is wait - which is really not an easy thing to do - and we have  these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Other members of our community may have been in a similar place and been through the same investigations before and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you for good results.

    Best wishes,
