Bladder Cancer

Hello All,

I’m Chris have had Bladder Cancer since 2012, happy to discuss with anyone new to this cancer or anyone who just needs to talk and for someone to listen.

We all have good and bad days, so none of you should suffer or worry alone, we are all here to help.

  • My husband has bladder cancer he starts chemo and radiotherapy on the 17 th we have been told it's not spread it's in the bladder wall  I'm so sick with the thought of the word cancer so is our family they have got him in quickly to start treatment  I am totally petrified  he tried to stay positive but he had a fitness test for complete removal of the bladder but he's  lung is not fit to intake major surgery how can we get through the  month of treatment I'm so very scared

  • Sorry to hear that your husband has bladder cancer.

The consultant and the team wouldn’t recommend Chemo and Radiotherapy if they didn’t think he could cope, they will continually review how he is doing throughout his treatment.

The point of doing so is to preserve the bladder and hopefully stop the cancer coming back.

Cancer is horrible to hear, but the NHS and Cancer Research do an amazing job and your husband is in good hands.

It is always worse for the loved ones than those who have the cancer, we come to terms with it and are able to deal with it better.

  • Thank you. Just so scared can't think straight I know he's in good hands with the NHS  think it's just natural to think the worst praying that the treatment works it's not grade 4 and as I said lucky it's not spread to prostrate or anywhere else just praying that the treatment works thank you for your kind words

  • Yes it is human nature to go through every scenario, but it is good it hasn’t spread, just ask loads of questions to the doctor who is looking after your husbands care, also hopefully you should have a CNS Nurse you can speak to, they are worth their wait in gold, but there are nurses on here you can speak to, their number is 0808 808 00 00.

  • Hi Chris sorry I haven't been in touch. Still on bladder cancer journey. I've had a bladder and kidney ultrasound which was clear but now I have to see a uroligist and I'm convinced he'll find cancer

  • Hey Sue,

    How are you?

Well if the ultrasound is clear then that is a good sign as they would have seen any abnormal mass in your bladder, just for your reference, they found my bladder cancer via an ultrasound.

But wait for the urologist, it may be something not related to cancer.

Please let me know how you get on.

  • The person who did the scan said he found nothing concerning and I should stop worrying but according to Dr google an ultrasound won't show everything.

  • Dr Google is dangerous, when I googled mine I had 6 months to live, but here I am 13 years later, still going strong and currently cancer free.

Obviously it won’t show up tiny cancerous cells, but bladder cancer normally manifests itself as a mass, I always refer to them as like tentacles where fish live in(from finding nemo), on the seabed.

So when is your urologist appointment?

  • I'm waiting to hear. I might do it privately.

  • I’m sure it won’t take too long to hear back,  normally two to four weeks.

Would a private urologist have access to all your medical files and scans?
