new here - waiting for a breast clinic referral

im waiting to be tested for breast cancer

  • Hi Julie, and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear you're waiting for a referral to be tested for breast cancer.

We have a lot of members within our community who have also been in this position, so you are not alone, and hopefully it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer you their support and advice.

I'm not sure from your post if you have been referred before but if not, then I hope this information I've found on what may happen at your appointment will help you feel more prepared for what's to come.

I know this is a rather scary and worrying time but we're here for you Julie and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Julie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are waiting to be tested for breast cancer. You should get your appointment through within 2 weeks from the date of your referral. You do not say what your symptoms are. Most people detect a lump, but not all lumps are cancerous. It is a fact that 80% of those who attend the breast clinic, do not get a cancer diagnosis. They are instead diagnosed with benign cysts, fibroadenoma or have naturally lumpy breasts. These clinics are not only for the diagnosis of breast cancer, but they also help to rule out cancer.

I do hope that your test goes well and that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
