Rodg - I have been suffering from renal cancer for the past 5 1/2 years

Hello, I live in Scotland, married, aged 76 I have been suffering from renal cancer for the past 51/2 years, resulting one kidney removed, spreading to my lungs, one which  has developed  to stage4.I have also developed tumours in my brain, which were removed, but have returned.
As a result of this I have had to surrender my driving license. In an area with poor public transport, this has proved to be a pain, and have depended on lifts from friends to attend hospital.

I am also unable to visit the rugby club, which I have played for since I was a teenager. It is 15 miles away, with no bus links. I miss the craic with my old friends.

i am also unable to walk the dogs these days .My wife now takes them out. I also, you can imagine am unable to spend days on the hills with the local hillwalking group.

Whilst I miss these things, I am concerned that I am becoming addicted to the terrible afternoon tv programmes. . HELP.

I know I probably sound boring, but  I am looking  for some  stimulus to  get me up and running again and be able to help the wife.

  • Hi Rodg,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that you are having to miss out on these things and I am sure this must be difficult.

Perhaps you can try making a list of other activities that would interest you, outside of TV, and see what might be feasible for you to get into. Lower level things that don't require as much exertion or travelling. For example creative activities, puzzles, or nature-based things if you are able to do short walks or perhaps be in a garden.

Hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post here soon, especially from others with any advice to offer. I hope that this forum can be of some support to you, in terms of connecting with others. You can also search for other discussions on here (using the bar at the top of the page), to find others to talk to, if you'd like to.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
