Into to my suspected thyroid cancer journey

So here I am at the very start, not knowing exactly what my body is doing. Since  Feb 2024 I have had an annoying cough and have been through many meds and x-rays. October I had a CT scan, you know what it's like you go for yet another investigation and mentally prepare yourself while also thinking that it will show nothing. This time I wasn't expecting my GP to tell me I had calcifications in my lungs, breast and thyroid. The next lot of referrals were done at the end of November ultrasound on my thyroid = Nodules oh no this sounded a little more serious but I had to wait for the results to go to the GP. December I attended an ENT appointment and BANG I am told you have a very suspicious-looking nodule/nodules suspected thyroid cancer. Registrar stated I would be going for surgery in the next few weeks to remove my thyroid and then they may have RAI to follow.

Mamogram end December calcification in breast given all clear - awaiting the respiratory referral.

I am due to have a FNA Fine Needle Asperation this month,

I worried one minute fine the next. Taken time off Work for 2 weeks so far but not sure if work will help if I go back. The mental health side of things is really difficult.

Any advice I would be really grateful

  • Hi katie-do,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this is a lot to be dealing with, and the way you describe you're feeling is something that I'm sure many others here will relate to. Hopefully once you have a better idea of next steps, it will help a little in terms of understanding what to potentially expect.

Try to focus on some things you enjoy and some normal activities (which could include work whenever you feel you're ready), as this can help a little.

Also keep speaking to others about things if you're finding things tough. This could be friends and family, or if this feels difficult to do, then other outlets such as this forum.

We are always here for support if ever you need it. Hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post here soon. You can also search the forum (using the bar at the top of the page) for other relevant discussions and people to connect with, if you'd like to.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thank you Ben for your kind words. I am taking each day as it comes and being kind to myself, This forum seems to contain much useful information too.
