Rosfin - stage 4 bladder cancer survivor of 13 years

Hello everyone. I am a stage 4 bladder cancer survivor of 13 years now. I had a radical cystectomy also a radical hysterectomy. It was a slow recovery but I am well today. I owe my life to a young doctor who arrived in our local surgery after a previous doctor who had been treating me for 18 months for simple cystitis. She was going thru my files and called me to say she was concerned about my ongoing condition. Anyway she sent me for an ultrasound and the rest is history. I still live under the dark shadow of my diagnosis and continue to be positive. Love to talk with someone who maybe in similar circumstance. Thanks.

  • Hi Rosfin,

Thank you for sharing your story with us. It is nice to hear survivor stories like yours which I am sure many members of our community going through the same thing will find inspirational. It sounds like it was a slow process but that you took one step at a time and 13 years on you are well and can now tell your story to others going through the same.

This young doctor certainly saved your life by spotting the warning signs and I am glad she did send you for an ultrasound to check. It's hard to forget what happened but it's good to continue to be positive and it certainly helps to talk to other members of our community who have faced or are facing a similar diagnosis. I will certainly bear you in mind if I see other members affected by stage 4 bladder cancer who are looking to talk to someone who has been through all this before and I will make sure they read your inspirational story.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Rosfin

I'm so sorry to hear that you have been through such a difficult.time. My mum was diagnosed with bladder cancer 2 days before Christmas. She is 83 and had been having bleeds for 18 months. She was finally referred to urology recently and they found the bladder cancer. She had previously only been referred to gynae before and was all clear. We don't know what stage it is yet. She is booked in for a pre op assessment on Monday (13th) and her TURBT is booked for Thursday (16th). So worried at the moment.
