Bowel cancer, metastasis liver & lung. My fiance

Hey.. I'm new to this. My love has been diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer . He was diagnosed just 3 months ago and he's just 44 years old. Since then, he has cancer in his liver (both lobes and lung). He began chemo on Christmas Eve and is really struggling. I just wanted to reach out to see if anyone can let me know if his side effects are normal? He has diaphragm spasms, leg cramps and blurred vision as well as fever (1st session of 20).

How does the treatment progress? Does it get worse?

Thank you> x

  • Hello wrachel,

I am so sorry to hear about your love's stage 4 bowel cancer diagnosis at such a young age and that he started chemotherapy on Christmas eve.  It must be a real shock for everyone that it has spread to his liver too both lobes and lung. Chemotherapy treatment can cause all sorts of side effects and I thought I would share with you our information on chemotherapy for metastatic bowel cancer and we also have an in-depth general section on chemotherapy where you will find out more about side effects of chemotherapy.

You mentioned that he has a fever and it is mentioned in our page on chemotherapy for metastatic bowel cancer that "you should contact your advice line or your doctor or nurse immediately if you have signs of infection, such as a temperature above 37.5C" so I would get in touch with a medical expert and mention all the symptoms you have listed.

Don't hesitate to get in touch with our cancer nurses too for further advice on the treatment. You can reach them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that the rest of your fiance's treatment will go well and that you will also hear from other members of our community who have received similar treatment before for metastatic bowel cancer and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
