Hight fit test 52.2 with low iron

Hi

Didn't see this coming.

Had some blood tests due to feeling quite itchy. Came back with a number of anomalies but doctor was only a little concerned about low iron levels. Said it wasn't terrible but prescribed iron tablets and retest in six weeks.

Also ordered a FIT test and the results hit home today 52.2 with urgent two week referral test suspect cancer.

Seeing GP Monday.

I had tests in 2016 to confirm Diverticular disease, at the time I reported episodes of bleeding from a hemmeroid near the exit.

This has been the case for many years and a couple of days treatment with Anusol always fixes it for extended periods. I also have IBS but since retiring that's much better.

I'm on a PPI due GERD.

I know there are reasons to be hopeful but having lost my first wife and mother to cancer, I'm literally filled with dread.

Thanks for listening

  • Yes there are many reasons to be hopeful as you probably know its much more likely to be something other than cancer ,Ive just had a colonoscopy because of a fit test of 51 and it is scary when they put you on the 2 week suspected cancer pathway but I was told its the quickest way to get you seen otherwise you'd be waiting a very long time to be seen on the not urgent last ,mine turned out to be Diverticulitis too ,the good thing is you are going to be seen quite quickly and they will tell you on the day if they find anything worrying .

  • Oh thank you. Friday the 13th really got me eh. I know it's serious but hopefully they won't call me until after Christmas. I never realised they tell you on the day.

  • Yes I've been twice now and both times I got told nothing to worry about ,the nurse told me if they see anything sinister they have to tell you .

  • Glad for you, so worried at this point

  • Hi there's always reasons to be hopefull ,u know it's hard but there is do much that can also be done,if anything to worry about they will tell you there and then.i had fit test of 168 they found cancer a 6cm tumour was told after colonoscopy and at 43 years old I was petrified I felt like my world was ending,I had bowel resection 5 weeks ago and just Been told no lymph node involvement so no further treatment just regular appointments, there is so much that can be done and also alot of other things it could be.just trust your in right hands hope everything goes well

Thanks  I'm glad you are doing well

  • Update after colonoscopy. Pleased to say other than extensive diverticular disease throughout, one 2cm polyp was removed with the consultant stating it looked completely benign. Obviously been sent to the lab but no signs of cancer. Procedure was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting, had sedation. The worst part was the god awful bowel prep. Good luck to everyone else
