Waiting for the referral/investigation

Good evening all.

Short synopsis

Last 12 months I have had a back ache after the first 6 months I went to the Dr as it was only mild at first and intermittent. Last 6 months it's been getting steadily worse. Last month or so other symptoms have appeared, sickness, no vomiting though, indigestion and more recently a sudden 3kg weight loss, from 85 down to 82.

Have undergone physio for about 6 weeks as X rays showed damaged lower vertebrae but the excercises didn't alleviate the pain, NHS physio suggested I see my Dr urgently.

So today my Dr has requested 2 week urgent referral and a series of blood tests, which I am getting done on Monday. Recent PSA test shows very low numbers, so I don't think it's prostate cancer.

I am also feeling tired during the day, I am or was a reasonably fit and healthy 69 year old, apart from 2 bouts of Afib in the last year, angiogram showed only mild coronary disease, well within my age parameters.

I think I know in my heart the results are not going to be good, mainly because how I feel overall and mother and brother both died of cancer.

I am trying to be positive and recognise that loads of people get tested and it's all clear, but I am struggling.

  • Welcome to the forum NC750X although I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and for the worry your situation is understandably causing.

Not knowing what the cause of your symptoms is never easy but hopefully the further tests your Doctor has requested will finally get you a step closer to some much needed answers and peace of mind.

So many of our members know how stressful this time can be so you are not alone NC750X, and I'm sure it won't be long until you receive some support and advice.

If you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you NC750X and wishing you all the best for Monday.

    Kind regards,
