Thyroid cancer - my daughter is struggling with my diagnosis. What can I do to help her?

Hello

I am new to this group and would just like some help

I have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer had my operation in August and going for more treatment next week .My daughter who is a nurse is really struggling with my diagnosis how can I help and support her

Thanks in advance

  • Hello Airvine

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope that you have recovered well after your surgery in the summer and that you're feeling in good spirits ahead of the next phase of your treatment.

Cancer often impacts the loved ones of those who are diagnosed so it's understandable that your daughter may be struggling with the news that you were given.

Encourage her to reach out for some counselling support to talk through her concerns and fears with someone outside of the immediate family in a safe space. It may be that she is able to access counselling support through her employer or it could be that there is an organisation such as Maggie's in your local area that she could visit.

If she, or indeed you, would like to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any information they can.

I hope that things run smoothly for you next week Airvine.

    Best wishes,
