Scared wife: my husband has been diagnosed with intermediate stage liver cancer which is treatable but not curable

Hi, my husband has been diagnosed with intermediate stage liver cancer. He has a large tumour that was treated with a SIRT procedure and his latest scan shows some of that tumour is still living plus 2 more have now developed. We've been told his cancer is treatable but not curable and although I'm normally very much a glass half full kind of a person, I'm really struggling to process this and move forward, in truth I'm absolutely scared witless and heartbroken. Anyone offer any words of advice? Are there any other spouses feeling this way?....

  • Hi ClaireyLou,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and that the latest scan results reveal that two additional tumours have now developed and his cancer is treatable but not curable. It's normal to feel really down after receiving such heart-breaking news and to feel like it is difficult to move forward, to be scared too of what lies ahead if the cancer cannot be cured. I just wanted you to know though that you are not alone here and other members of our community are going through something similar at the moment and looking after a partner in a similar situation. I hope you won't mind but I have slightly edited the title of your thread to add more relevant information so that others who are in a similar place can spot it more easily.

I thought I would also share with you information from our website for Family, friends and carers where you will find useful tips on how to best support a loved one with cancer but without forgetting too to take care of yourself and your own wellbeing which is also very important. As nothing replaces hearing from the personal experiences of other spouses and partners of loved ones with cancer, I will now let them come and say hello and share their story with you.

We're thinking of you and your husband during this difficult time.

    Best wishes,
