Bladder cancer

Hi my name  is Jane.  I'm going to have a chemo infusion soon.  Wondering if anyone has had one and what it was like.....

  • Hello Jane

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis of bladder cancer. It's understandable that you may be feeling a host of different emotions ahead of starting your treatment.

We have had a few forum members post about their diagnosis of bladder cancer. If you use the forum search function at the top of the page to look for the word bladder you should find lots of posts that you can read through and perhaps if you post a reply you will be able to connect with others.

It's also worth checking the Action Bladder Cancer website to see if there are any support groups in your area. You could also contact Maggie's if there is one locally, as they often hold bladder cancer support sessions as well. Alternatively, talk with your specialist cancer nurse, who should know what other support options are available if you want to access them.

If you'd like to talk with one of our nurses at any point, you're welcome to call them. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that the treatment runs smoothly for you Jane. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jane, I had three cycles of chemotherapy for muscle invasive bladder cancer, and found it be a roller coaster ride! Most days I was quite lucky and found that I could exercise and eat as normal. On a couple of occasions I felt a little depressed, but luckily I was able to continue! What I would say helped me was, during my infusion, I actually went through some maths exam papers, which also helped chemo fog prevention. I was able to walk three miles after each session, so once again quite lucky. Not forgetting my wonderful lady wife. (support helps!) Hope you are OK with the infusion.

  • Thank you so much for your response.  I'm determined to be brave!!  I shall take some puzzles with me to do.  Just hoping I can manage hosting Xmas whilst dealing with 6 weeks of infusions!

  • You will be fine.

Keep fit both physically and mentally.

    All the very best.
