Cancers back after a year in remission

Hello, i was 42 when I had bowel cancer in 2022 with spread to the liver, had emergency bowel op the day of diagnosis then chemo then I had an ablation done on my liver.

fast forward to last week and the cancer is back in my liver and also my lung, I saw the surgeon on Monday who will be removing some of my liver and he said I should be having it done beginning of December and will be in for 7/10 days, I’m so scared!
With the bowel operation i was diagnosed then that evening I was in surgery so I didn’t have any time to think but this time I’ve got weeks and it’s a big surgery, how was it for others that have had the same?

Then for the lung they want to do an ablation, not sure when and then I’ll have chemo. We are all booked up for our first family holiday ever in April to go to America, I’m praying that will be possible still, back in 2022 I was given 2-3 years and I’m over the 2 years so I don’t want to cancel it in case we never get the chance, I want to make as many memories for my son as possible, he’s 14.

Thank you for reading.

  • Hello Justbec,

l am sorry to hear that your cancer has returned and spread .Its the news none of us want to hear. l got my news days before l due for bowel resection following 6 weeks of chemo/radiotherapy. The spread was into the liver and was obviously on a gallop since there was a lively debate between two consultants over who would get first crack. Thankfully for me the Liver consultant won the day as l had 65% of my liver removed along with my Gall bladder, l was told another few weeks it would not have been due to proximity of vital components

There is good and bad news about the operation, the bad being the first few days following the op is very painful, l was in a hammock bed ,not allowed to move and my back gave me hell. Just do not laugh, cough or sneeze for the first week .l was on a very light liquid diet over that period but the first piece of toast was better than a fillet steak

The  good news is that recovery was quicker than that of my subsequent bowel resection and l have had no further issues with it over the 9 years since it has been done, and it has not affected me in any way

Best wishes for a smooth journey and gentle recovery.

    David
