Bowel cancer

Hello , I am finding it difficult to come to terms with my cancer diagnosis and I would really appreciate someone to talk too that isn't a family member or friend.

It's not that I don't listen to them .

I just don't think they understand me .

  • Hello I was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in 2022, I had just over a year in remission and now it’s back in my liver and lung, I’m happy to talk.

  • Hello Justbec

    How are you feeling

    I'm so sorry to hear the cancer is back .

    Have they managed to have it under control .

  • Hello Saberwal,

                              l can understand that you find yourself in a lonely desperate place, and placatory well meaning comments really go over your head and seem so flimsy given the turmoil within your mind. Its a new scenario for your mind to take in but it will get easier over time.

    Certainly l felt that how could an outsider really understand my feelings and emotions writhing around inside my head, when l was given my stage 4 bowel and liver cancer diagnosis ten years back. Initially l felt that l had to shut down external conversation in order for me to go back within myself to try to make sense of where l was and more importantly where and how l needed to travel in my future. l needed that uninterrupted space in my mind to square all issues that were threatening to overload my trying to make sense of it all.

    Perversely those closest and dearest to you felt the last ones you needed at that moment, maybe because you did not want them to be part of the pain you were suffering, and some distance would take the edge off and prevent transfer to them

    You will go through several transitions on your treatment journey in order to arrive at the place where you have put all your ducks in an orderly row and your mind in a calm place, hopefully in doing so you will not hurt yourself too much or those around you that care about you;

    There is no right or wrong way, only your way and in time you will discover it. l hope it does not prove too difficult in doing so,

    my very best wishes,

    David
