Invasive lobular cancer spread to lymph node

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with ILC which was confirmed following a biopsy. A biopsy on a swollen lymph node confirmed spread there too. My MRI and CT scans have confirmed this and didn’t show any further spread. I am oestrogen positive and HERS negative.

This was all the result of screening and has happened over the last four weeks. Am still trying to process it. Am booked in for surgery next week. A lumpectomy and full lymph node clearance. What I am trying to find out is whether I will need chemo. I had accepted I will need radiotherapy and hormone blockers for at least 5 years.  I am now worried that because of the lymph node involvement I will certainly need chemo.  The Consultant didn’t mention the follow up treatment.

I’m sorry to hear about your situation, it sounds like you’ve had a lot to take in over the last few weeks, and it’s no surprise that you’re still processing everything. A diagnosis like this, especially when found unexpectedly through screening, can be a real whirlwind.
With surgery coming up soon, it’s natural to have questions about what the next stages of treatment might look like, especially with the lymph node involvement.
Hopefully, others who have had similar experiences will be here shortly to offer advice and support. Also, please keep in mind that if you feel like asking some questions to our team of nurses, they'd be happy to talk things over with you Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.
For now, take things one step at a time as you prepare for your surgery, and know that this community is here whenever you need to talk or just share how you're feeling.
    All the best,
