Going to have a camera put down my throat for cancer worried to death
Hi Martin,
I know this is something that others worry about too, and perhaps others on the forum will have experienced this and be able to send replies to you soon.
Do discuss your concerns at the appointment so that they can help to put you at ease as much as possible.
I hope it all goes OK.
Wishing you all the best,
Ben

Hi Martin, I’m sorry to hear you are feeling so anxious. Have you had the camera yet? I had to have this a few months ago and can honestly say that this was the one procedure I had always dreaded needing to have! I’ve had 3 major surgeries but was terrified of having this.
I would recommend the sedation. You will still be aware of the procedure but a little more relaxed and the staff were very reassuring/sympathetic and talked me through the procedure. It is not the most comfortable experience but was not as bad as I expected and was over very quickly - about 5 minutes at most.
And I was diagnosed with a Hiatus Hernia rather than anything more sinister (I have since been diagnosed with ovarian cancer but it was unrelated). There are so many things that could be causing you problems that are not cancer related.
I hope it goes well for you and really hope you receive a positive outcome (hopefully by now you have already had the pricedure/results).
Take care. H
Hi martin , sorry to hear your feeling so anxious about having the camera put down your throat, iv'e had it done twice and honestly there's nothing to it, not once did i feel it, try not to stress your self out, like i said iv'e had twice and there was no issues, so please if your feeling very anxious or stressed out let doctors know how you feel , they shall re-assure you , honestly you wont feel a thing. i hope it all goes well for you,.take care and let us know how you got on as it helps others good luck
Hi Martin
i have had a camera into my throat stomach, I’ve had this twice. Please ask for sedation it’s absolutely no problem , it will relax you and you will be able to hear the nurses but it’ll all be over very quickly. They will put a spray into your mouth just close your mouth after they spray and swallow. This will numb your throat. Please don’t stress about this it’s not a horrid thing at all it’s quite pleasant so don’t worry you are in good hands.
