Cervical screening results show borderline changes and HPV+. I'm so scared about going for my colposcopy next week

Hi

I have recently had a cervical screening come back with borderline changes to the cells and HPV+ I have had pain in my lower tummy and back since about 8 weeks after giving birth to my 4th child (12 year age gap) now 9 months. I am so frightened about going for my colposcopy next week. Not because of the procedure but because of what the result will show. I missed a smear 4 years ago and my last one was 7 years prior to this one and the most recent one was put back until after giving birth etc. I’m not sleeping and I suffer massively with anxiety and panic attacks which are now present with a vengeance. I can’t concentrate and I’m so scared about this whole process. I have read some of the previous posts on this but can’t seem to find anyone who has experienced similar who has come back to the forum with an update on how things went for them with their results from the coloscopy.

can anyone help please?

thanks xxx

  • Hey, I'm sorry to read how much your struggling with the prospect of the colposcopy prodedure in the coming days.

I wanted to write and say I had HPV for nearly 4 years, (never had any warts or symptoms) I had the same results as you 2 and a bit years in and had get my colposcopy which I was really nervous about. You can take someone in with you if it makes you feel better and it was quite quick. It took another year and a half to have my next smear test and the results came back as negative. I couldnt believe it as I thought it would never go away, I'm in my early 30s.

I too suffer with panic attacks as I have a disorder but you have to keep living and not let it take too much space. It's obviously easier said than done. Youl feel much better once the colposcopy is over.

    Sending lots of wishes.
