Basal cell skin cancer

Hello everyone, got diagnosed & treatment all this week, so to say my head is still spinning would be the understatement of the year! I’d had a crusty scab that would keep forming (behind my ear) for a couple of years and had been to the drs where I’d been put on a waiting list for Dermatology which was estimated at 22 weeks…Still haven’t heard from them & when I check on the NHS app waiting list it’s recently been updated. So I’m still on there after 9 months…Thankfully, during that time I moved and when I saw my doctor here everything happened really quickly. I was diagnosed with Skin cancer on Tuesday and they removed it on Friday! It was removed by excision and skin graft and I couldn’t have been in safer hands. I was really shocked when the surgeon said it had been growing for 5/6 years, so that was hard to take as it’s worrying if I got it in time. They said it’ll be a 2 - 8 week wait to let me know if it’s all gone, so we’ll just have to wait and see. God bless everyone, I’m now a fully paid up member of the club that I didn’t want to join.

  • Hi Rubymaz  I have been going through this process with my nephew who had bcc on his chest. The consultant told us that bcc is very slow growing and rarely spreads to other organs. They do have to perform deep incisions to remove the growth and skin graft but once the lesion has been removed the prognosis is good. They will probably follow you up and check for further lesions. Hope all  goes well for you.

  • Thank you that’s so kind of you to respond and with such positive news. I hope your nephew is okay now. It’s such a scary time as it completely turns your whole world on its head. So getting used to what is now the new normal. I also have my 11 year old to think about, God bless.
