  • Hello Queen,

Well done for finishing radiotherapy for breast cancer 2 weeks ago - that's an important milestone! I am so sorry though that just after you finished your breast cancer treatment, this large goitre with nodules on your thyroid was discovered. I am not sure whether this could be thyroid cancer but you will hopefully find out more soon when you have had all your test results. Try not to anticipate the worst though as it may not be related to cancer but it's important to have it closely examined and that you find out once and for all what it is and whether it needs removing and any further treatment.

Waiting for a definite diagnosis is often the hardest thing and it is all the harder for you as you have just come out of treatment for breast cancer and now this is happening when you probably least expected it. While you are waiting, I thought I would share with you these helpful tips on how to cope while waiting for important news which I hope will give you some good coping strategies to help you deal with this anxious wait for a definite diagnosis.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern,

    Best wishes,

  • Sorry to hear of your cancer. My windpipe was pushed over due to large nodule at the time of scan was 5cm on my right side. I had another nodule on center of the Thyroid later sized as 1cm. My symptoms were cough, choking, headaches and a few times food getting stuck in windpipe. With an endoscope down my nostril I had infection in my tonsils and I had pain in my lymph nodes and saliva glands. I was sent to ENT to see a Doctor who examined my lump and advised a scan and biops. See your GP for referral, with my size of Nodule even been one side the decision was made after the scan it was suspicious and total Thyroidectomy was the course of action. The surgery was fine but importance is having a good team with experience. I had no damages to other parts linked to Thyroid position so affecting calcium or voice. My cut was positioned around a crease in my neck and even after a few weeks with massaging and moisturizer it is looking great. I hope you have good news from your scan and biops.
