I can’t sleep, having problems with my stomach

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and I am currently 3 lots of Chemo into my treatment. I am into my good stage of my 2 week Chemo cycle, so I am not feeling too bad. But I just seem to have a constant issue with my stomach. Now it’s keeping me awake. During the day I have stated to feel a little sick or my stomach is unsettled all of the time. I am taking 3 anti sickness pills a day now before breakfast, lunch and dinner. But my stomach is just never quite right. Then I get a lot of gas and stomach rumbling a lot. The gas etc is now keeping me awake. Has anyone else experienced this. Any ideas on anything I can do.

cheers Simon

  • Hello Simon,

lovely stuff that chemo, just pop some in and hey presto all is good, if only. Reality is that your body is having to cope with two invaders, one fighting against you, one fighting for you, the problem is the chosen battlefield is within you. So no great surprise that certain things change from the normal. l use medicinal charcoal tablets to tame my growling beast to acceptable social limits, but at the moment l would welcome the noise since my bowel decided to block once again, Surgery, chemo/radio all need a price to be paid, but its now started to growl again,

    hope you find your answer,

                                                David

  • Hi Simon

Your issues sound like a carbon-copy of my own. Excessive nighttime gas, stomach gnawing, gurgling, cramps, and all get worse at night. My issues are due to Whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer.

I find Buscopan to help with the cramping. If it's bad-bad then I'll add a 200mg ibroprufen and 500mg to 1000mg of paracetamol to the mix. I find taking this mix (inc. a 10mg Buscopan) about 15-minutes before bed helps alleviate the discomfort and enable me to sleep for a while. Buscopan can be bought OTS from any pharmacy (Boots, Lloyds, Superdrug or local chemist).

Caveat: Make sure you're okay taking the mentioned meds with your care provider first.

    Best regards.

    Craig
