Waiting results

My partner is getting his results next week an appointment with the consultant has just been made. We were told at the first appointment the mass was highly likely cancer and a biopsy taken. Scans were scheduled very quickly so now we just have to see what the staging is. I go from being positive to feeling of despair.

  • Hello DebsyJ

I'm sorry to hear that your partner has recently had a biopsy for a possible cancer diagnosis. We know that for many people this period of waiting for results, and the uncertainty that comes with it, can be very difficult. It's understandable that you're experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions at the moment.

Hopefully next week's appointment will bring some answers and reassurance regarding the next steps in your partner's care and treatment.

If there's anything you'd like to talk through with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

Do let us know how things go next week DebsyJ. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi it is tonsil cancer the positive news was they found it was localised and curable no evidence of any spread. Oncology appointment 2 weeks then treatment starts 4 weeks after, before radiotherapy they will remove any teeth that is needed. As much as not looking forward to all to come it's a small price to pay for being cured. Thank you for your reply. x

  • Hello DebsyJ

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I'm sorry to hear that your partner has been told that he has tonsil cancer but it sounds as if the specialists are confident this can be cured.

I wanted to suggest you have a look at this thread and maybe post to introduce yourself to some of the members there. They have a wealth of experience of undergoing treatment for oral cancers and in particular I know that  aka Hazel has been able to share some great advice and tips on some of her posts.

It's going to be a difficult few months for you both DebsyJ but please know we're here to offer any help and support we can.

Sending you both my best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Thank you for your kind words appreciate it.

  • Thank you, we attended the MDT meeting and  they went through everything from definite short term side effects and long term side effects. We are very well informed and made us aware of how brutal this treatment is going to be. He has already had some teeth removed in prep and going for the mask fitting next week then peg tube in about 3 weeks. Appointment with speech therapist and dietician to follow soon.Treatment starts 3 to 4 weeks. The whole process to date has been quick and efficient and have nothing but positive things to say about the team. It's just something you don't want someone to go through. Appreciate you telling me  your positive outcome and so pleased to hear you are doing well. X
