In March 2022 I went on a 10 day holiday in Turkey I was having a good time and lovely weather then on my last full day I had breakfast as usual then lunchtime I had just a plate of chips as usual but for some reason the food got stuck and I had to run to the toilet to make myself throw it up, but not only the food came up lot's of phlegm came up with it.. Obviously I was pretty scared and didn't know what to do so I went back and tried to eat a bit more, it went down but I chewed it up to nothing.. Same thing happened later so I was pleased to get home the next afternoon..I went straight to the doctor's and he looked at me straight away and rang the hospital then and got me in endoscopy 2 Days later.. to which the outcome was oesophagus cancer..I had an appointment with the upper GI surgeon and the oncologist within two weeks and started chemotherapy a month later having seen the surgeon as well who explained what was going to happen with the procedure and the of risks involved... Chemotherapy started and went well until my skin started peeling off my hands and I developed thrush in my mouth,, the fantastic nurses and sisters did all they could to ease me and the oncologist gave me medication,,also my surgeon and her assistant cancer specialist Sister were on hand whenever I needed them.... Finally the day came for my operation which started to go wrong as soon as I checked in at the hospital,,I sat waiting to be called but nothing then nearly 3 hours later i was called to a room where the other surgeon was waiting to tell me my surgeon had caught COVID and he was willing to step in for her if that was ok by me,,,,Well luckily I had met him when i went to see my surgeon at walsall so I agreed to which I got ready and 20 minutes later i was in theatre..I remember waking up from my surgery but the next time I awakened was 9 weeks later in intensive care having been gravely ill with complications But I stayed positive and with all the expertise of the doctors and surgeons and wonderful nurses and Sisters I am still here and coping quite well,, So my advice to anyone who is in the process of having the bad news is STAY POSITIVE AND DON'T LET IT GET YOU DOWN,, YOU CAN BEAT IT
