Appendix removal reveals cancer

My partner was called to go to hospital last week on the pretense that it was for an update of his appendectomy.  Once there the doctor told him cancer cells were found in his removed appendix.  Now they suspect he may have bowel or some other type of cancer. I'm terrified and don't know how to handle this kind of information.  I've never had to deal with a loved one having cancer. Things have been put on hold for a week because of mid term holidays.  Next week it'll all kick off. The test/results etc. Any tips on how to cope with this are much appreciated.

  • I'm so sorry. It's so hard to process a cancer diagnosis. I'm not sure giving you no preparation is a good move. I know I'd prefer to be told that there was something discovered during the operation that required face to face discussion.

I just fix on the day to day. It's too big to focus on and is overwhelming. My partner has stage 4 melanoma. Before we knew it was so advanced and when we were adjusting to each stage of his diagnosis we'd squeeze each other during the tougher nights. As the treatment has worked living with cancer has become our norm so we deal with it by distracting ourselves. The scans and test results are the worst. Waiting for news is so hard mentally.

"Mid term holidays," do you have school age kids?
