Ear cancer - op successful but I'm struggling with being permanently deaf in one ear. Has anyone else been through this?

I’m lizzyann and was finally diagnosed after months with Basel cell carsonoma in my middle ear.  I had surgery at the beginning of September which I have been told is so far is successful.
my eardrum etc has all been removed and I am permanently deaf in my left ear.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this op and how they are coping with the complete hearing loss in one ear knew it would happen and so pleased it has been taken away but suddenly am getting very tearful and not sure how to cope with it

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Lizzyann although I'm sorry to hear you were diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma in your middle ear.

I'm so pleased your surgery has been successful although adapting to having complete loss of hearing in one ear must be very tough, and a lot to cope with, so if you'd like to talk this through with someone do feel free to give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m,  or if it's easier you can make a new post in their area of forum called ask the nurses. They're very insightful and will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

Hopefully you will hear back from some of our members soon but in the meantime, you may be able to get further support and advice from the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID).

We're thinking of you Lizzyann and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
