Thyroid Papillary Cancer

Hi my name is Ally. I have just completed my complete removal of my Thyroid gland. I was scanned and had two nodules, one small at the front of my gland. The other nodule. Was scanned at 5cm which had grown further before the surgery. My gland and nodules were biop and I was informed two days ago it was Papillary Cancer. My team are meeting this Tuesday 15 October and my meeting to discuss the plan they have devised going forward.

my scar is looking great and with only the lump under it really showing anything. I have retained a deeper cough and after a week a sore throat though this could be surgical due to airway, I suffer from restricted airway and the process of GA was a bit intense before putting me under even with the camera and tubing to guide. My main issue is tiredness, my stamina is reduced and walking is still curtailed to short trips. I did take blood thinners and these stopped my frontal headaches as soon as they stopped my headaches returned. When they get over obtrusive I go light headed my legs go rubber and feel terrible. Is this typical of this recovery. Regards Ally

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Ally although I'm sorry to hear your biopsy results showed you have Papillary Thyroid Cancer.

I know this must be worrying, but it's good to hear your surgery has gone well and that your medical team are meeting this Tuesday to decide what happens next.

I hope this information we have about coping with fatigue will help, but if you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can make a new post in their section of the forum called ask the nurses. They're very insightful and will do all that they can to answer your questions about your recovery and put your mind at ease about what's to come.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Ally and wishing you all the best with the next stage of your journey.

    Kind regards,

  • Attended biopsy meeting my cancer nodule had grown another 10mm when removed from what was scanned. It also was described as aggressive and had three breaches in its pocket and was unclear if the cancer spread outside my Thyroid. It was decided I move hospital to facilitate treatment with new team by Nuclear Active Iodine procedure. I will attend new lead on 22Oct to discuss my treatment and timescale. The Prof dealing with my treatment also dealt with my older brother Thyroid cancer. We both suffered aggressive cancer but were not the same and he needed some of his voice box receding and a lesion on his jugular that could not be removed. He was a good bit older than myself when diagnosed. So await my next part of my cancer journey.
