Bladder cancer

I just got diagnosed with bladder cancer on the 2nd October

I’m 32 and i knew something wasn’t right with me but I didn’t think it was cancer ! When I got told I had no one with me for support and had just had a relationship breakdown too I run out that hospital and waited until I was outside to cry It just  feels strange I feel like my life has changed since the day I got told this .

they think it is slow growing but there was a lot of tumours going on in the lining of my bladder I got a CT scan tomorrow to make sure it hasnt spread  so they can then determine the best way forward treatment wise .

i have two girls aged 8&9

  • Hello Kirsternb22

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It's understandable that you felt overwhelmed at being given this news. I know that lots of our members here will understand when you say that it feels strange and as if life has changed since you had your diagnosis.

For many people, this period of additional testing, and waiting for results and to discuss your treatment plan can be difficult. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face and it's natural to have moments where we think about the what-ifs. It's good to hear that you've already had your CT scan and hopefully, the team will be able to give you some reassurance before too long.

In the meantime, we have some information on our website about bladder cancer that you may find helpful to have a look at when you feel able to.

I'm sorry to hear that your relationship has recently broken down as well. I hope that you have family and friends around you who can support you through this break-up as well as over the coming months as your treatment begins. Understandably you may be worried about telling your girls and how they will cope with things. We have some information on our website about talking to children that you may find helpful and at some point when you're ready, you may want to let your girl's teachers know so that they can support them as well.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses at any point then you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can. they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you have some news soon Kirsternb22. Do keep in touch and let us know how you're doing. We're here to listen and offer any support we can.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
