Bilateral ER+ Breast Cancer

Hello all, diagnosed a couple of months ago with bilateral breast cancer, having a double mastectomy with diep reconstruction on 22nd October. Very nervous about it all. I have two children, 9 and 11, husband and I are looking to tell them what is going on at the weekend. Telling them worries and upsets me more than anything else. Thankfully no mention of chemo or radiotherapy as yet…I guess we shall see.

  • Hello Emma

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with cancer. I'm sure that the past few months have been difficult at times but it's good to hear that you now have a date for your surgery.

It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about talking with your children about your diagnosis. We never want to knowingly cause upset to our children but hopefully, you and your husband will find the right words to share the information with them in a positive way. If it would help then we do have some information about talking with children on our website.

It might also be a good idea to let your children's school know so that the staff can support them when they are back in school next week if necessary.

If you want to talk with one of our nurses at any point you're most welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

I hope that things go smoothly for you this weekend Emma. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
