skin cancer - due to have face to face appointment with consultant. Fearing the worst

Hi i’m currently at the start of this journey, at the end of June this year I made an appointment with the gp as I had what started out as a large freckle in colour and which i’ve had all my life.

Since covid and also in somewhat denial it had changed colour and raised I had it removed early september and waiting on the histology from the hospital. I received a letter 2 weeks after the biopsy saying I would be having a telephone follow up post op in October.

I now have received a further letter asking for me for a face to face with the consultant I now feeling low as I thought It was over but now seems it’s not and i’m having to wait a further 2 weeks to find out.

  • Hello tizwizz

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some investigations for possible skin cancer. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious now that your results appointment has been changed from a telephone call to a face-to-face appointment.

However, I wanted to try and offer some reassurance that this does not automatically mean that your results will show you have skin cancer. There can be many reasons why an appointment is changed in this way but I can understand your concern and frustration.

I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call to talk through some of your worries ahead of your appointment. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and information they can along with helping you think about any possible questions you might want to ask the specialists. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully your appointment later this month will bring some reassurance. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
