  • Hello EJ

I'm sorry to hear about your kidney cancer diagnosis. It sounds like it's been a whirlwind few months. I hope that you've recovered well from the surgery and that the health professionals looking after you have been able to give you some reassurance about the next steps.

It's not uncommon for people to struggle with their sleep after a cancer diagnosis. Even if you've cared for loved ones through a cancer diagnosis before, sometimes our subconscious can be processing things in the background which can impact your sleep patterns.

It's worth talking with the GP or the specialist (if you have an appointment planned) about your sleeping issues. It may be that they can make some suggestions or perhaps the issue could be explained as a side effect of any medication you're taking. You might also want to consider whether talking with someone about all that you've been through in the past few months may be helpful. Sometimes talking with someone who isn't a friend, family member or directly involved in your care can help to process things. It may be worth a try to see if it helps with your sleep patterns. If there is a Maggies locally in your area you could get in touch with them or ask your specialist cancer nurse what services are available.

If it would help to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that things settle and improve for you EJ. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
