I have breast cancer

Hi I’m new to this I have breast cancer it would be nice to talk to other women in the same situation

  • Hello

I was diagnosed with BC after routine screening in August. The waiting for full results is scary and caused me anxiety . I now have full results and got a call today to go to hospital tomorrow morning to discuss my surgery . I feel like a weight was lifted just knowing what I'm dealing with even though there's a way to go on the journey and I still have a diagnosis non of us want ,but definitely feel better about it.

Hope your doing ok? Have you treatment plan?

  • Hi,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear why you have decided to join us, but you have done the right thing, in contacting us. You will find this forum very helpful, as you travel your cancer journey. Most of us on the site either have or have had cancer. Others are caring for someone who has it.  It is a great help to talk to people who have genuine experience of this disease and they are always willing to give you the benefit of their experience, which makes your journey less scary.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and have had a lumpectomy, followed by a double mastectomy. That was all 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and a fulfilling life. Do you know what type or stage of breast cancer you have, or what treatment options are open to you?

Please keep in ouch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi I’ve had breast cancer for nine years and still on treatment I know that I’m very lucky to be still here but I do get scared at times x

  • Hi Caring Lady,

Most people, who get a cancer diagnosis, get scared at times. I had 2 bouts of breast cancer 14 years ago. I was terrified when I was diagnosed with the second bout, within less than a year from my initial surgery. One thing we do learn with this disease, is to make the most of each and every day. Life is too short to let cancer take over. Do you feel any less scared now than you did at first? Most people eventually come to terms with their diagnoses and find it easier to cope with than they did at the start.

What treatment are you still having and how are you coping with it? I found it helpful to attend a cancer support group, where I could talk to others about their experience. You can also speak to a counsellor at these venues, if you feel that this would help. I attended a Maggie's Centre near me. These are dotted all around the country. If you don't have one of these locally, there are a number of other centres nearby - just ask your breast care or practice nurse.

    Kind regards,
