Hi Just been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. Incurable

Hi I'm Paul, as I said just had the diagnosis that the cancer is incurable. Bit lost to be honest and need to know the next stage and treatment and help I can get. I can't lie and say I'm not scared but it's hot me hard and any ideas how this may go treatment wise and any ideas how to approach all this would be very helpful.
thank
Paul

  • Hello Paul, I feel for you, I really do.  My husband was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in December 2022.  In early 2023 he endured chemotherapy alongside radiotherapy in preparation for an esophagectomy at the end of April 2023.  I won't lie to you, following the major surgery, the recovery was slow, very slow and oftentimes very frightening.  But he came through it, only to be told he had a further cancer in the pleural of the lung (just outside the lung).  This tumour is inoperable.  This year he has gone through 6 cycles of aggressive chemotherapy.  We are to see the Oncologist tomorrow to find out the results of the latest PET CT scan.  We are terrified.  So, I can fully appreciate your fear.  I hope you have the opportunity to talk to your Oncologist and/ Macmillan Nurse.  They are there to find possible treatments and to talk to you about side effects etc. Living with a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming.  It can consume you.  I think you need to look for any little positives in each day.  And I really hope you have someone to care for you and love you every day.
