Myeloma

I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2022 following weeks of excruciating neck pain.  I then underwent an emergency operation which left my head in a fixed position (forward thank goodness!).

My first course of Valcade chemo failed and I went on to a trial which has unfortunately stopped working.  I am waiting to see my Oncologist to discuss 'other options' but have no idea what these might be.

I'm feeling a bit depressed which is unusual for me but I keep taking the Mirtazepine SSRI.

I'd love to contribute to any research forums in the hope that our experiences may help others but I'm not aware of any that are accessible.

Anyway I thought I'd pop by and say hello to all you lovely, brave people.

Thanks.

  • Hello Dyann

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the last two years. It sounds like it's been a real rollercoaster and it's understandable that there are times when you are feeling low and perhaps overwhelmed by things.

It's good to hear that you've already spoken with someone about your mood and that you're receiving some treatment for this. It's worth talking with your GP (or prescribing doctor) about your low mood. It may be perhaps that your medication needs a slight adjustment.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment with the Oncologist and they will be bale to offer you some reassurance about the next steps available to you.

In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

I do hope you have some positive news soon Dyann. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
