Awaiting suspected cancer appointment

Feeling very anxious, noticed chest tightening, lack of appetite and lump in throat which I am guessing in anxiety symptons.

  • Hello Tiffany-reh

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently waiting for an appointment for a possible cancer diagnosis. We know that for many people this can be an incredibly worrying time.

The symptoms that you've described could very well be related to anxiety but it would be a good idea to just talk with your GP to confirm if they want to see you for a check-up.

We do have some information on our forum about how to cope with waiting for news and I'd also suggest giving our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can whilst you're waiting for your appointment. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you have some answers soon. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Tiffany, sorry to hear about your anxiety re diagnosis .

You are the first person I have spoken to on here, I am going through the same thing.

I had a breast biopsy last Monday and have been waiting, anxiously till my appt next Tuesday when I'll get results. Do you know when your results will come through?

I feel quite dazed, sometimes it feels totally unreal, very shaky and don't want to go out to meet friends or anything until I get the results. So am spending my days snuggled up reading. Not sleeping well obvs and feel terribly tired. It's a state of absolute limbo isn't it.

I’m also in limbo. I’m 31 weeks pregnant and have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. Awaiting biopsy results for a nasal tumor. Never felt so crippled by fear. Trying to enjoy spending time with my girls and focussing on good times with them. Very scared and the wait is terrifying too. I have fingers crossed for all of us.

Gosh you poor thing, that must be unbelievably difficult to cope with. My thoughts are with you and yes, fingers crossed for all of us

  • Thank you for taking time to reply, it is so comforting to know I am not alone. I am thinking of every person here x

  • Hi Carol, thank you so much for getting in contact, I feel very lucky to be in touch and your first person that you wrote too. You are mine too.

Even being on the chat feels sereal but we are stronger together and not alone.

Keep doing what you need to do to feel as ok as you can, I am sure your friends will understand you need to take this time to process and stay in your safe place x

So tough waiting. I am holding hope for you on Tuesday x Please do stay in touch if you want too.

My appointment isnt until 3/10. A long wait x My mind wanders lots. Only my husband knows the situation.

    Thank you for your kindness.

  • Hi, so very very hard, you are a Warrior Mum x My thoughts are too with you. Limbo land is lonely and scary. Love that you are spending lovely times with your girls x I have retracted to home and doing things that feel comforting in between the noise of the outside world.

  • Hi Tiffany, It does feel surreal, good word for it.

Your wait is a bit longer than mine, let's hope we all have a positive result, but being realistic I've found it helps more to think along the lines of "if I have cancer then I will survive it", brave thoughts but not so brave inside lol

  • Tiffany,  forgot to say good luck for 3/10 x

I like that mantra, I’ve repeated it to myself a few times today and it has helped keep me going
