Urgent Pancreatic Cancer Referral

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has any idea of what I can expect.

I have just had results back, and LFT really high. An out of hours GP contacted me at 10pm the same day (03/08/2024) test done to advise me I needed to see someone ASAP.

Appointment today, and urgent referral has been made. The Dr seemed very concerned, and now obviously I am.

I had bloods done last Nov and LFT was perfect. If it is now dangerously high is this an indication that IF it is PC it is advanced?

Thank you for reading.

  • Hello Kezo1969

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some blood test results which have given cause for concern. It's good to know that a referral to the specialist team has already been made and hopefully you won't have to wait too long to see them.

It's important to remember that there are often many causes for abnormal blood results and whilst it's understandable that you may be worried about cancer, until you see the specialists it's really difficult to say what may have caused your high LFT results.

If you'd like to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Hopefully you will hear about your appointment soon and the team will be able to give you some answers.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Kezo just to say my adult son had high LFT all last year he kept going back for regular blood tests ,they sent him for an ultrasound scan but as far as I know all was fine ,as far as I know he does still go back for blood tests just to check but he's moved away now so we don't discuss it ,he also had bloated stomach and really bad indigestion but they gave him medication for it and he's still on it now ,did they mention P/C to you ??

  • Hi Jenny, thanks for your reply.

I have a touch of jaundice, nausea on and off, and twinges in my stomach (not 24/7).

The Dr said she was referring me urgently for what is called pancreatic cancer referral. Wants me scanning and other tests rather than ultrasound and other tests.

TBH, I have drank too much over the last 20-25 years. I enjoy red wine of an evening, it has been my de-stress. So if it is C it is my own fault.

Trying not to dwell until tests begin.

  • I get where you're coming from ,I so hope its nothing too serious there's so much they can do now for many illnesses even in the last few years so keep in touch on here its a great site people are very kind ,good luck ....

  • Thank you, I will update once I know anymore.

Just to add, the same bloods results also show dangerously low potassium levels. No idea if that is anything to do with PC  Dr said it was nothing to do with LFT results which I get but maybe low potassium is a symptom of PC.

    Take care
