Pre-diagnosis jitters

Hi

I feel like a bit of a fraud since most of the posts concern people with a cancer diagnosis but I am in a no-mansland of waiting for my biopsy results.  I am told it can take up to 3 weeks for the results but since the test last Thursday I have been all over the place.  Thinking positively, thinking negatively, and searching all over the internet for more detailed information.  I havent  spoken to anyone about it yet but every day is seeming so long.  My mother's sister died from ovarian cancer and another sister had breast cancer.  My grandmother had a hysterectomy but I don't know why.  All this family background makes me feel more nervous.

  • Hi Florence-Audrey,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's never easy waiting for results and dealing with uncertainty, so I can understand this is difficult.

Some find that it helps to keep busy while waiting, and focusing on other things as much as possible to help keep your mind off the worries. I know this can be easier said than done.

Try to avoid looking things up online, as a lot of the information won't be relevant and it often tends to increase worries.

I hope it's not long to wait and that you hear more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thanks for the suggestions Ben.  All ideas that I have been following but sometimes difficult to focus.  It is now 7 days since the biopsy so it won't be too long now until my results arrive.  I was told that my womb lining is 10mm according to the scan.  I am postmenopausal so is 10mm thicker than average?

  • Hi Florence-Audrey,

Moderators are not medically trained so unfortunately we're unable to answer your question about the thickness of your womb lining but you're very welcome to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to help.

I'm glad you don't have to wait too much longer for your results and will have my fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
