Metastatic Renal Cell carcinoma

In January 2020 I had a nephrectomy to remove my right kidney and a rather large tumour.  The operation went well but two years later, in regular CT scans, lesions or nodules were found which are symptomatic of metastatic kidney cancer.  I have no symptoms but the nodules continue to grow on my liver and right adrenal gland. I am on what they term "active surveillance" and have scans every 3 months but after my last one and review showing increased sizes they are now saying that I should also get a head scan.

I had no symptoms prior to the discovery of my cancer and worry that these nodules will just grow and grow.

has anyone else been in this situation?

  • Hello MaryHelen and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about the nodules that have been found on your liver and adrenal gland and that a head scan, in addition to your routine 3 month scans, has now been recommended.

I know this must be a very worrying time but the Cancer Chat community are here for you MaryHelen and hopefully you will hear back from others who have been in a similar situation soon.

If you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to support you and address the concerns you have about these nodules continuing to grow.

We're thinking of you MaryHelen and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
