Stage 2 squamous cell cancer

I'm new to chats etc but like the fact help is out there when you need it. I've recently (April) been diagnosed with stage 2 squamous cell cancer of the lung. Had 13 sessions of radiotherapy and on Monday was told by the oncologist the tumour has shrunk. I couldn't get surgery as my oxygen levels were too low. Telephone consultation in 3 months then back to the clinic in another 3 months. To contact them immediately if any changes but not sure what changes to look for. Feeling not too bad just now

  • Hello Mary-lina

Welcome to the Cancer Chat community although I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis that has led you to find us. It's good to hear that although you've been unable to have surgery, the oncologist has said that your tumour responded to the radiotherapy and you're not feeling too bad at the moment.

It sounds like the team is going to keep a close eye on you with regular reviews and it's good to know that you have open access to contact them if you have any concerns. Please don't be afraid to pick up the phone and contact the nurse specialists if you are worried about anything related to your diagnosis. They are there to support you through this.

In terms of what changes to look for, I imagine that the team mean if you feel that anything in your health changes that concerns you or is new for you. We have some information about the symptoms of lung cancer on our website that you might find helpful as a reminder of some of the things to be aware of.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses at any point you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays). I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and information they can.

I hope that your health continues to remain stable Mary-lina. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
