Stage 1 Breast cancer

Hi, just saying hello , Friday got results and I have stage 1 breast cancer. I'm usually quite strong but this has completely floored me,  cried so much and never felt so petrified. Now waiting on date for operation to remove this lump. I'm not sleeping at all, can't face work,  and they don't understand how I'm feeling inside. Planning on going back next week so I have time to digest it all and get my head in the right place. Is this normal to feel like this?

  • Hello , i was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in march !! I know  exactly how you feel , its just a terrible shock to the system. I cried till no tears left. I have had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy . The thing about stage1 cancer is that its early stage and treatable and cureable . Physically i am absolutely fine and cancer free. However I am not the most positive person , and my negativety is terrible. But i am getting better at accepting as time goes on !! You will feel so much better once you start the treatment  process - I did !! Keep me posted , and if you need anymore info , just let me know !! I will be thinking of you !!!

  • Thank you Pattyanne, appreciate that. Me to full of negativity at the moment but trying each day...to be more positive. I keep racing ahead, what pain will I be in after operation, how will I cope, then side effects of tablets etc and carrying on working....just awful but taking one day at a time .

  • Aww you are very welcome ! You sound exactly like me - always jumping ahead , and thinking tbe worst !! Honestly the lumpectomy was sooo easy - i had a lymph node removed too for testing but was all clear !! Home same day !  Cancer hadnt spread  outside breast -  only had patacetamol  !  Radiotherapy was easy too, and the staff are all trained to make you feel at ease ! I am on medication now for 5 yrs, and have been fine - was bit teary and low mood for few weeks but nothing to complain about !! The worst part for me was the waiting on results , horrible time as i am sure you know ! Take care and keep me posted  pat x

  • Thanks Pat, just had a call, pre-op and magseed 16th Aug and operation 30 August, it feels very real now....xxx

  • Aww great ! Not too long to wait - yes i had magseed too!  And had to have a blue dye on morning of surgery too. That good news , the sooner the better,  least you  have something to work on now !! Try not to worry - easier said than done I know !! Contact me anytime - we will probably do each other good !! Our cancers sound very similar - keep in touch pat x

Hi Pattyanne, not been on here for a while...how are you? Everything went well, operation and radiotherapy was fine, 5 days of a daily dose of radiotherapy. It did take it out of me, I'm on letrozole but do suffer with side effects, I'm like Bagpuss lol yawning all the time, more so in the afternoon...zzzzzzz, my hands ache (I'm a secretary so a lot of keyboard work), my legs ache to and I get itchy head....omg not got much going for me have I.  I've spoken with breast care nurse and she said persevere a bit longer before they would consider changing anything. I really don't want to change tablets. I take Vitamin C and one to combat tiredness but don't think that's doing anything...any suggestions? Xx

Hi Pattyanne aww sounds like me, although not had my dx results back....yeah I heard you can change tablets but quite frankly I don't want to. Think it's tad early to be doing so...I'm hoping when weather gets better it might improve with my joints. It's mainly the tiredness that's effecting me and having to work...I'm in bed now so speak soon xx
