Delay or Not delay Treatment for Lung Cancer

I'm male I'm 85 extremely fit and healthy

Got diagnosed in May after visiting A&N with very painful Shoulder pain.

Had CT Scan told I had Lung cancer which had spread to spine (neck C5 fracture)

Had Radiotherapy on Neck and had Hard Neck Brace fitting which I have been wearing for 8 weeks

Pain disappeared after 3 weeks completely

Now only wear HNB when I go for brisk 5 mile walk 3/4 times a week

l have been told the only option I have for treatment is Chemotherapy!!

Because I have no symptoms whatsoever should I delay or start treatment ????

  • Hi Vikingman and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry you were diagnosed with lung cancer a few months ago but I'm really glad to hear how well your treatment has gone and that you're only needing to wear your HNB now when you go for your walks. It must be lovely to see how much progress you've made in such a short space of time.

Your medical team will be in the best position to advise on whether or not you should delay your chemo, but hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will share their thoughts and advice with you soon.

We also have a very friendly and helpful team of cancer nurses you can talk things through with on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to come to a decision about this soon and all goes well with your chemo.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Further to my meeting with Consultant on Monday now waiting for CT Scan to find whether Tumour has increased and spread…this will take at least  6 weeks for results
