Newly diagnosed and started treatment

Hi there I'm recently diagnosed with mds with aml involvement . I also have a neurological disability . I'm feeling very overwhelmed but trying to take it a step at a time . How are others coping ? Be good to be able to get my thoughts in order . Thank goodness I joined this forum . Been given so much information and googling the condition just left me more scared so I've stopped doing that .

Thanks for any help

  • Hello Plants-and-dogs-are-sanity

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with MDS. Undoubtedly this will have been a difficult time for you and it's perfectly understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed by things.

Taking things a step at a time can be difficult and it's natural that we sometimes let our minds run ahead but if you can continue trying to take things a day at a time, and avoiding Google, this will certainly help you to feel less anxious.

We have some information about coping with MDS on our website as well as a link to mental health and cancer that you may find useful. It has some advice and tips about coping that may be of use.

We know that for many people, it can help to talk things through with someone to share how they are feeling and to ask any questions that they may have. If you think it might be useful to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
