Being referred

Hi all I'm new here so bare with me I'm from north east England, currently out of work, so I'm struggling a lot with my mental health especially this year with various things going on anyway, I've recently been loosing blood from my back end, spoke to doctors about that and my combined mood also same day at docs I was weighed and since last year somehow I've lost 13kg, so regards the bleeding the doctor said she will refer me to genetics to start being screened,  I did the home FIT test on my poop sent it back and yesterday doctor called me to say as the results say there's blood in my poop she's now urgently awaiting an appointment for me to get both my upper and lower bowel checked.

I got really emotional yesterday and feel so scared especially as both my mam and dad and mam's dad have all had cancer.

I know it's not confirmed as cancer, and could be many other things but it's that fear, and its the only thing I've thought about since.

  • Hello Ph76

I'm sorry to hear that you've been struggling with some ongoing health issues over the past year. it sounds like it's been a difficult time for you.

It's good to hear that your GP has followed up on some of your concerns and that you're now waiting for an appointment to investigate this bleeding.

It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and worried about what may be responsible for your symptoms, particularly as you have family members who have had cancer. We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be very difficult. The uncertainty often leads us to think about worst-case scenarios but as you say, there could be many other things that are causing these problems. Worrying won't change that outcome but it will leave you feeling worse in the meantime.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

I hope that you have some news soon Ph76.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
