Hi - my journey with bowel cancer so far

Hi just a bit about myself,i got diagnosed with bowel cancer a few months ago had a operation to get the tumour out in may and had a temporary stoma bag put on,it is a genetic one called lynch syndrome which makes me high risk of getting cancer again.

Just started chemo on Monday and it's all happened so fast and not really been able to take it all in, it's effected me physically and emotionally as i was going gym and walks before and liked to keep myself fit.

My mental health as took a battering as well.

That is just a bit about me any questions feel free to ask.

  • I went a similar route in 2009. Bowel resection after chemo and radiotherapy then four months on a lump taken off my liver and stoma reversed.

If you're used to being fit, you know it takes a bit of work, but you will benefit from that. It's not easy after major surgery. My advice is do as much as you can as soon as you can and build on it day by day. I bet you've heard, "One day at a time," a lot, but it works!

    Stay safe.

  • Hi A.J.

Thanks for taking the time to message me i appreciate that very much and thanks for the advice as well.

Yeah keeping as active as you can is a good way and yeah one day at a time is a great way to look at it, sorry I'm the late reply as the chemo knocked me for 6,.

    Are you cancer free now?

I hope that you are and that you are able to get back to your life.

Take care and all the best to you.

And you stay safe as well

  • Bowel and liver sorted, but now waiting for a date for lung cancer surgery.

    All the best.
