Prostate cancer combined with mixed connective tissue disease

I was successfully treated for prostate cancer with ADT and radiotherapy some years ago. I am now 80 years old and have discovered that the use of ADT has caused my levels of creatinine to rise to 50% above normal and I have gone from prediabetic to type 2 diabetes. There is plenty of research to show that ADT treatment can affect one in various ways but I must caution you to check with your oncologist whether you would be at greater risk if you suffer from MCTC such as Sjögren’s Syndrome. I realise that to be cancer free is a small price to pay but having impaired kidney function or T2 diabetes is no fun.

  • Hello zeet

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with some health problems that the treatment for your prostate cancer may have contributed toward. I hope that you are being well supported with managing these conditions.

You make a very good point about raising any questions and queries with the hospital team when a plan to create cancer is being discussed. Whilst medics can't always cover every possible eventuality, it's important that we have the information we feel we need to be able to make an informed choice about treatment and any possible risks this may cause.

I'm glad to hear that your prostate cancer was successfully treated and I hope that the Dr's able to continue to stabilise your health.

    Best wishes,
