Susan - oesophageal cancer now spread to liver

I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer last October, since then I have had chemo and radiotherapy.  2 months ago I was given the all clear, but unfortunately,  today I was told it had spread to my liver.

I'm feeling pretty scared but hopefully they can still help me

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • Hi Susan,

I just wanted to offer you a very warm welcome to our community and to let you know I'm thinking of you.

The news you were given must have been very difficult to hear, especially when you were given the all clear 2 months ago, but I'm glad you've joined us as our members will know how scary this will be for you right now, so you are not alone, and hopefully it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer their support and share their journeys and experiences with you.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer any questions you may have and put your mind at ease about what may happen next.

We're here for you Susan and are sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hello Burden.  So sorry that you have had this devastating news, especially when you were given the all clear 2 months ago.  However, just because the cancer has spread, this doesn't mean that nothing can be done.  Back in November 2022, I was told that I had about a year to live (breast cancer that had spread to my lungs and lymphatic system).  However, I am still here!  Also,  I knew a man that was told that he had just a few months to live and he lived another 22 years.  It is absolutely natural that you are feeling scared, but I always say that where there is life, there is hope.  Good luck.
