Bladder Cancer

Hi Everyone, I am 57 years of age & I have not been long diagnosed with high risk non invasive bladder cancer. I had surgery nearly 5 weeks ago and I am awaiting second surgery to quote the doctor "tidy everything up".  After this I have to wait 6 weeks for the BCG treatment.  Can anyone tell me the side effects of this treatment?   Many thanks for your time.

  • Hello Manxie1966

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis of bladder cancer. I hope that you are recovering well from your first surgery and being well supported by those around you.

It's understandable that you may have some questions about the recommended treatment plan. We have some information on our website about BCG in the bladder which may help. We also have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you can call to talk with. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can.

Hopefully, some of the community members who have been through this diagnosis and treatment will reply to share their experiences with you soon.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your next surgery and that things progress smoothly for you. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
